Advertising & Sponsored Content Disclosure
Last updated August 2026
We sell advertising, and we would rather you knew exactly what that buys. This page sets out every commercial format on the site, how each is labelled, and where the line sits.
What we sell
- Display banners in the header, in-content and sidebar positions.
- Featured and homepage listing placement, which raises visibility only.
- Sponsored articles in the press section.
- Animated listing logos.
- Newsletter and Telegram placements.
- Search placement within the site's own results.
How it is labelled
Display banners carry a visible "Ad" marker. Sponsored articles carry a sponsored label at the top and nofollow links throughout. Paid listing placement is marked on the listing.
You should never have to work out whether something was paid for. If a commercial placement on this site is not clearly marked, that is a mistake and we want to hear about it.
What advertisers cannot buy
- An editorial score, or any change to one.
- Removal or softening of a critical mention.
- A dofollow link, which would breach search engine guidelines and put us both at risk.
- Advance sight or approval of editorial coverage about them.
- Exemption from the rejection criteria applied to every listing.
Campaigns we refuse
We decline advertising that promises guaranteed or fixed returns, advertises unsustainable fixed APY figures, displays an audit badge with no report behind it, or names partners who have not agreed to be named.
We also refuse creative designed to imitate site navigation, system alerts or editorial content, and campaigns targeted at jurisdictions where the offer would not be permitted.
Separation in practice
Commercial conversations are handled separately from editorial review. A project can be running a paid campaign and receive a poor score at the same time, and that has happened.
If a paying advertiser fails a check badly enough, we pull the campaign. We would rather refund a booking than leave something up that misleads readers.
